The lack of support Neera Tanden received was due to her Twitter fingers, not racism
Racism Score: 0.6
The “this is racist” award of the day goes to NBC’s, Miriam Yeung. The story starts off with “What happened to Neera Tanden is racist…”
Dissect the racism claim we shall.
Tanden decided to withdraw as Biden’s potential budget chief due to clear and obvious bipartisan nonsupport. BIPARTISAN nonsupport.
The obvious reason Tanden struggled to gain bipartisan support is due to her Twitter fingers, and a key misstep for Tanden was attacking Bernie Sander’s.
The Bern had this to say during Tanden’s confirmation hearing in February.
“Your attacks were not just made against Republicans. They were vicious attacks made against progressives—people who I have worked with, me personally”
Ouch.
Sanders continued.
“At a time when we need serious work on serious issues and not personal attacks on anybody, whether they’re on the left or right, can you reflect a little bit about some of your decisions and the personal statements that you have made in recent years?”
So instead of discussing her qualifications and competency for the position, a portion of the time was spent discussing her Trump Tweet tendencies.
NBC News reported Tanden spent months attacking top Republicans on social media. She compared Ted Cruz to a “vampire,” called Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) “the worst,” and likened Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to Voldemort (Harry Potter reference).
Tanden stated “I deeply regret and apologize for my language” regarding the tweets.
The Twitter receipts were just too hard to overcome.
Tanden would have been the first person of color Asian woman elected to lead the budget office.
Whataboutism seems to be plaguing some supporters of Tanden, i.e. Yeung. What about Trump’s comment’s? What about Ted Cruz’s comments? What about republican actions?
What about personal accountability? Tanden is responsible for Tanden’s actions.
Tanden is still expected to get a White House position that does not require Senate confirmation.
No need to explain further why Tanden had to withdraw as the evidence is indisputable.
This is not a race issue (some argue it is misogynistic but we digress); this is a mean-tweet-the-receipts-don’t-lie issue that Tanden could not overcome. She should have taken Herm Edwards advice…Don’t Press Send!
