Black student has trouble navigating Northwestern’s campus sidewalks, are white people to blame?
Racism Score: 0.0
There are too many self-proclaimed Black spokespeople, speaking on behalf of ALL Black people. We need to remind everyone, as Black people, we do not speak for ALL Black people.
We do, however, speak to logic and reason. So please do not assume all Black people are as triggered as Northwestern opinion writer, Kenny Allen. If you are standing, please sit down.
From the mind of Allen – WHITE PEOPLE WALKING ON THE SIDEWALK AND NOT MOVING FOR BLACK PEOPLE IS RACIST!
… I wondered why walking around on campus could be so frustrating. Even when sidewalks were relatively empty, I would often have to walk way around people to pass without bumping into them. At first, I chalked it up to the geographic diversity of the school; maybe the people that came to this school were used to different ways of moving through a public place. But after talking to my Black friends about my experience, they echoed it: people at this predominantly White school would not move out of our way on the sidewalk.
We would love to tell you this is satire. Unfortunately, it is real. Allen clearly has not been to New York, a professional sporting event, an airport, a grocery store, an amusement park, a music festival, or any other packed place in the universe.
People can be rude or not paying attention, human flaws be dammed. It is a cold world; you bump or get bumped in crowded public places if there is no mutual “excuse me” and acknowledgement of one another, especially on sidewalks!
If white people did move out of the way, we are certain some people would complain that is racist as well. Allen should conduct a seminar and record his demonstrations how he believes ‘anti-racist’ people walk on sidewalks.
Now, he is a victim wondering why a major news outlet laughed at his article.
Newsflash, because it is a hilariously absurd article!
Northwestern is a prestigious university for journalism. Notable alumni include Michel Wilbon, Rachael Nichols, Mike Greenberg, and Stephen Colbert to name a few. If this is the type of journalism we can expect from Northwestern students in the future, lord help us.
We agree with your Twitter portrait, Kenny, something is wrong with you!
