Black yoga teacher believes ‘white supremacy’ is polluting yoga, just-in-time to promote her new book

Racism Score: 0.2

Just when we think we have seen it all, a story so absurd presents itself with a headline tailor made for 2021.

We have said this time and time again, this type of foolishness is a reason people roll their eyes sometimes when they hear something is racist (Black people included).

People is a reputable publication, however, it seems like they are trolling with a story like this, yet it is a real story.

Jessamyn Stanley, a Black yoga teacher genuinely believes white supremacy and cultural appropriation are polluting yoga. One could argue she is cultural appropriating yoga because…it originated in northern India over 5,000 years ago and she is not Indian.

Perhaps Stanley is shamelessly trying to promote her new book, and using “white supremacy” as her marketing strategy. The author does explain “…the timing couldn’t be better considering the current cultural climate.” Bingo.

Stanley wants to capitalize on the hypersensitivity of racism, we do not blame her, calling everything “racist” and “white supremacy” is hot right now, cash in!

Here is a piece of Stanley’s yoga trauma.

“The popularity of yoga really came down to wealthy white people wanting to learn and explore in a very specific way, and that’s why yoga has been so white for so long in America.”

Okay.

Her folly in thinking this helps race relations is comical, maybe her intentions are more self-serving rather than helping race relations. If not, it is either sad that she is suffering from the perpetual belief all her problems are due to white supremacy, or it is despicable she created this type of drivel for public consumption.

She goes on…

“I would venture to say that everything in our collective society is rooted in white supremacy. I am sure there are many people who would disagree with that, and honestly I don’t care because I believe that and I know it’s the case,”

Case closed. She KNOWS it is the case, period. There are more ludicrous anecdotes in the article and if you want a good laugh, read the People article.

Plenty of Black people practice yoga. Go to YouTube and search for yourself. Black people are not letting the white man prevent them from mastering the art of yoga.

A quick search of Stanley’s YouTube page is interesting. Below is a screenshot of the very first video on her page.

That is right, Stanley’s girlfriend is white! Where have we seen this before?? We remember now, Alica Garza, Black Lives Matter co-founder is married to a white person.

So, Stanley is following the Black Lives Matter co-founder playbook of essentially expressing disdain for white people…while dating a white person.

Are they upset because their relationships are rooted in white supremacy so they project on to others?

Intriguing theory.

To be ULTRA CLEAR, we DO NOT have a problem with interracial relationships and kudos to anyone in one. Find love where love finds you.

We just find it fascinating when the Black people who scream the loudest about racism and white supremacy, fail to mention they have white partners. The irony is undeniable and renders their “white supremacy” claims incredibly disingenuous.

Here is a reaction that sums up what the majority of rational people are probably thinking about Stanley’s “white supremacy” yoga issue.
