The Florida State Seminoles appears to have the full support of the Seminole Tribe. It is great to see this type of partnership in a divisive climate. The Seminole Tribe has given its blessing for Florida State to use their name as a sign of respect and honor.

In 2005 the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Seminole’s tribal council unanimously approved Florida State’s use of the Seminole name. Not only did the Seminole tribe approve the name, they also collaborate with university on uniform designs, regalia use by the mascot, and other applicable markings.

Tribe spokesman Gary Bitner believes the Seminole tribe’s relationship with Florida State provides meaningful educational opportunities that can aid in other positive outcomes. We could not agree more with his assessment!
