Negrohead Lake, almost as bad as Maine’s N-word Islands
Racism Score: 5.0
Some names are so offensive they stop you in tracks, like Maine’s N-word Islands. Similarly, Negrohead Lake raises eyebrows to say the least.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and other Baytown local officials are officially requesting a name change.
Negrohead Lake is wildly offensive. The NAACP is requesting for the name to be changed to “Lake Henry Doyle.”
ABC13 Eyewitness News reports the name honors Henry Doyle who was the first student to apply for a temporary law school designated for Black people at the University of Texas at Austin in 1946. A permanent school was built in Houston in 1947.
The name change should be a no-brainer! These types of name changes are warranted as N-word or “Negro” on geographic locations have been deemed illegal many years ago.
Whose white grandpa ‘born in a different time’ oversaw implementing the law to ensure the names were changed?! Good grief.
